The Thermo Scientific FlashSmart™ CHNS/O Elemental Analyzer is an automated system for the quantitative determination of the elemental composition of organic and inorganic samples. The equipment determines the levels of Carbon (C), Hydrogen (H), Nitrogen (N), Sulfur (S), and Oxygen (O) with high precision and reproducibility, and is widely used in materials characterization.
The system is based on the modified Dumas method, in which the sample is subjected to dynamic combustion ("flash combustion") in an oxygen-rich atmosphere for the simultaneous determination of CHNS. Oxygen determination is performed in an independent analysis via pyrolysis. The gases produced are subsequently separated by gas chromatography and quantified by a thermal conductivity detector (TCD), allowing for the precise determination of the sample's elemental composition.
The FlashSmart stands out for its high modularity, being configurable for different analytical applications (CHN, CHNS, CHN/O, CHNS/O, NC, N/Protein, among others), offering high productivity, automation, and laboratory flexibility. The system is controlled by the EagerSmart™ software, which automatically manages data acquisition, calibration, results processing, and the generation of analytical reports.
