The ECHO Intruments ER Series Respirometer is an automatized system of multi-channel respirometry conseived for continuous monitorization of biological activity through the mediation of oxygen (O₂) consumption and carbon dioxide (CO₂) production. This equipment evaluates the aerobic and anaerobic biodegradability of an ample variety of solid, liquid and suspended materials, furnishing quantitative data on the microbilogical degradation in controled experimental conditions.

The system works through the controlled circulation of air or other gases through individual reactors, where high-precision sensors continuously monitor O₂ and CO₂ concentrations, as well as parameters such as flow rate, temperature, pressure, and humidity. Based on these measurements, the software automatically calculates the cumulative production of carbon dioxide, oxygen consumption, and the percentage of biodegradation of the sample throughout the test. The system is also equipped with additional sensors for monitoring gases such as CH₄, H₂S, H₂, and NH₃, allowing adaptation to different research and development applications.

The modular architecture of the ER Series allows for the configuration of systems with 12 independent channels, enabling the simultaneous execution of multiple tests under different experimental conditions. The equipment supports various types of reactors for solid samples, liquids, and algae cultures, and can operate under aerobic or anaerobic conditions, with automatic gas flow and humidification control.

The equipment is controlled via dedicated software that allows for the configuration of experimental protocols, real-time test monitoring, visualization of CO₂ production and O₂ consumption curves, data export for statistical analysis, and automatic report generation. The latest software versions include advanced channel management features, remote control, automatic alerts, and measurement recovery after power outages, increasing reliability and operational flexibility.
